Interiors // Styling a Coffee Table

I’ve spoken about our home before but rarely post pictures. That’s probably because we’re in a rented property that isn’t exactly to our taste and the majority of our furniture is hand me downs still.  But I’ve vowed 2017 is the year I plan for change that, buying new pieces and investing in good quality furniture in the style we like.

Instagram seems awash with new homes and picture perfect living rooms, and as I was getting twangs of envy, one very large John Lewis shop later and our lounge is looking a lot more like ‘us’.

We were very kindly given the sofa from old work friends when we first moved in and it’s a cream leather two piece with a chair to match. As with many rented properties, our walls are classic magnolia. Our style is very modern, industrial yet cool. So when I spotted the black metal frame coffee table in the sale, I knew I couldn’t leave without it.

The colour scheme is cream and black, with small pops of colour thrown in here and there.

During the same trip I snapped up the standing lamp. We’ve wanted one for ages and I just love the style and look of this one, especially with the spotlight as an added touch.

The cushions have seen better days thanks to one French bulldog….so I’m think of new grey faux fur cushions or a statement cushion.  We’ll see.

The rug was an Aldi find at just 20 quid as was the beanbag square. And we’ve accrued the table accessories along the way. Candles as gifts, coffee table books, recipe books (my favourites) and the small dish is from the souks in Marrakech bought on our holidays last year.

I plan to blog more about homeware as we upgrade our furniture and prepare to move houses hopefully soon. Next on my list is the dining room. Whether we up cycle our current dining table or buy a new one, I’m not sure but I’ll keep you posted!
