Food // Autumnal Butternut Squash Soup

The dark nights have well and truly set in meaning cosy nights in are firmly under way. Eating healthily can take a backseat in the colder months so to conquer this I’ve been making big batches of soup. Root veggies are flavour of the month and whilst I carve my pumpkin for Halloween I decided to make a batch of butternut squash and leek soup. Yummy. I’m quite lazy and just shove my ingredients, chopped and seeeded into a pan with a veggie stock cube and a pinch of pepper to flavour. And before you know it, you have a big batch of flavourful soup ready to take to work for lunch. Easy peasy. All you need is – 1 butternut quash 2 leeks Veggie stockcube Hot water Salt and pepper to season Chop your veggies, simmer in a pan, add the stock and then blend till smooth with a hand blender. Easy lunch recipe with little hassle!

Weekly food shop haul

This blog is here to chat about food and beauty equally but when I’m on a health kick it shows with an array of new recipes to try. But today I thought I’d try something a bit different with my weekly food shop haul. I’m really nosey and love seeing what people pop in their basket at the supermarket. So I thought I’d go one further with a haul. I’m back following Slimming World so I picked up an even mix of veggies, breakfast food and quick snack. So let’s get started- Cereal – museli and Aldi’s own special k Veggies – butternut squash to make soup, mushrooms for yummy garlic ‘shrooms, avocado cos obvs, pea shoots and leaves to make tasty salads and grapes to snack on at work. Pita breads – homemade kebabs are a winner in my book. The perfect fakeaway meal! Fishcakes are a new addition to my shopping list. Aldi do a great variation and I’m loving mine with sweet potato wedges and salad. Red pepper hummus to eat with …

The weekly round-up

Blog posts have been quite spare around these parts lately, with the weekly round-up appearing each Sunday.  Next week food and beauty posts will make a return but for now, here’s been my week in pictures.  Officially one week in to back on the healthy train following Slimming World again. So I made fish tacos with homemade guacamole and a yummy roasted sweet potato with chilli and feta. Mmmm, expect that recipe soon! At work I’ve been learning to code and this quote by Karlie Kloss sums up why. It’s such a useful and relevant skill, with bloggers showcasing just that.   And I’ve just got back from a wedding so a little selfie to show off my dress couldn’t be missed!  See you next week when posting regularly shall resume!

Weekly round-up: Sunday edit

This past week has been a bit of a whirlwind. House viewings, family time, girlie catch-ups and much needed R&R with the man friend. Deskfasts have been the way forward this week with a bowl of porridge and a mug of lemon tea pre 9am. I posted my first beauty blog in a ages talking about my monthly favourites. Go on, read away. Friday I was off work so got to indulge with feta scrambled eggs and avo on toast. Delish. This was the week I gave in to the suede trend thanks to a very naughty River Island sale order. Hello new skirt and boots! And lastly was a trip to San Carlo with the girls. Lots of lovely chat over great food and wine. What more could a girl want?!

Monthly favourites: beauty edit

It’s been a while since I’ve talked beauty around these parts but I’m back with the 4 products I’ve been loving this month. I know we’re only half way through October but I keep thinking we’re closer to November than we are. Maybe it’s wishful thinking as we get closer to Halloween and bonfire night. But back to the products I’ve been raving about. First up it’s an old favourite that I forgot about for a while but it’s back in my make up bag – Estée Lauder DoubleWear. I just love the coverage and how it lasts all day. Perfect for long days at work and nights out. Next up is the first of two moisturisers. Simple is one of those affordable brands that serves you well. Now it’s getting colder my skin is feeling it and I’ve been depending on this moisturiser. And the La Roche-Posay BB cream has been my favour underneath my make up. Designed for oily skin, it’s perfect at tackling breakouts. And lastly, Bastiste dry shampoo. Cos, obvs. This …

My weekend in pictures

A relaxed weekend was necessary after a crazy couple of weeks and mine went something like this… A pot of lemon and ginger tea each morning. I mean, I drink this through the week too, but it tastes so much better on the weekend, lied in bed after a massive lie in Friday night I went for tapas with my bestie and I couldn’t resist the creme brûlée for dessert. And today we went for brunch. Poached eggs are a must on a Sunday with a healthy green juice on the side. This week I plan to eat a little better so why not start today!

Kick-starting my day

I don’t know if this is a really boring topic to blog about or not but lately I’m loving flavoured tea. I’ve never been a fan of hot drinks, generally swerving any offerings of tea of coffee for a boring glass of water. Preferably’s best, honest. But since I vowed to eat a little healthier and cut out the crap I consume on the daily and I decided to add a cup of melon and ginger tea to my morning routine. I’ve been enjoying a mug of Twinnings at the weekends and I have a box of Aldi’s own on my desk at work.    To be honest, they taste the same and I just love the refreshing lemon with the kick of ginger. Just what I need to wake me up in the mornings and clear my sinuses since the dreaded British cold well and truly caught up with me this week. I keep reading reviews about Clipper tea too, so I think I’m gonna throw one into the trolley during my next …

Keep your head up, keep your heart strong.

The last 7 days have been kind of strange. I spent last weekend in beautiful Shropshire with my old work girls. Tea and cake, alfresco prosecco and lots of overdue gossip was on the agenda.  The trip came at a welcome time as it was the break I needed.  However, on Monday I lost my grandad. My hero. The man I’ve always looked up to and will never forget. We were expecting it but it’s still a shock and so sad.  The last 6 days have been a blur. Taking time off work to just breathe. Throwing my trainers on and heading out in the sunshine to take stock.  And then the week caught up with me and I got sick. Sore throat, no voice, cough that resembles a bark kinda sick. Luckily my other half has been looking after me. He’s a good un.  Death is always a strange topic. It happens daily but when it enters your world it still knocks the wind out of your sails. Makes you stop and take stock …
