First impressions of La Roche-Posay

On a recent shopping trip I picked up a couple of La Roche-Posay skincare samples to try. Having heard big things about the French skincare brand I was eager to try these out.  I chose two samples of the effaclar duo+ which is a corrective serum that targets and corrects the appearance of imperfections.     I have quite oily skin and suffer from breakouts every now and again so this product sounded perfect. It was really nice to apply with a slight perfumed scent. But it felt really soft and I could tell it had been applied to my skin without leaving any greasiness.  All in all, this is a product I’d try again. I’ll have to take a look next time I’m in Boots!

My holiday nightime routine

Lately I’ve had a couple of nights away and I’ve got reducing my nightime routine to fit into my travel bag down to a fine art.  When you’re in a hotel you want your home comforts so you feel like you and these are mine.  Once I’ve showered and removed my make up with my Bioderma mercillar water, these are my go-to essentials.  I love the feeling of a freshly washed face and this gem from L’oreal leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean.  Next up is my face moisturiser. I got this bottle of Elemis marine cream in the limited edition Glossybox from Christmas. And a little bottle goes a long way!  It smells gorge. I use it with this Witch anti-blemish redness relief moisturiser.  On my body I’m loving this Cowshed body lotion. It smells really gingery so I feel lovely and clean!  Lastly I brush my pegs and hope into bed!

Get your stationery fix with Minted!

Recently I’ve discovered Minted. A gorgeous Etsy style website that sells gorgeous notebooks, journals and address books, that I can’t get enough of! I’ve always been a stationery fan, hopping of to Paperchase when I need a new notebook for work and trying to get my hands on the prettiest design possible! It’s safe to say I dedicated a large portion of my time to browsing the many pretty, classic and contemporary designs to choose from.  I browsed each section of the site before I finally nailed down my choices and placed an order. Each design can be completely customised to your taste. Add your blog name, best friends name as a cute gift or your favourite slogan to really personalise it. Choose from journals, day planners, notebooks and address books. Now before anyone gets the wrong idea, I’m not getting married or a ring I that finger anytime soon but I love these wedding invite designs too. There’s a huge wedding section on the site, so if you’re planning your big day, I really recommend …

My favourite going out make-up

Going out out is a rare occasion for me these days, but when I do I love to take my time getting ready and applying my make-up. At Christmas I decided to treat myself to the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette and 6 months on, I’m still in love. It has lots of different shades so I can build on the colour to create a brown smokey eye on a night out. To match my eye make up I’m all about a bold lip. This Barry M lipstick has featured before but teamed with this Nars lip pencil which matches perfectly. And lastly I need to profess my love for the L’oreal infallible 24 foundation. It really is as good as the blogosphere makes out. I’m usually a loyal Estée Lauder double wear fan but this bottle is a great go. It provides full coverage without feeling too cakey. What are your make up must-haves?

Food: Ask Italian #AllAboutTheBase Event

Cos I’m all about the base, bout the base, I love pizza….. Last Monday I headed into Manchester after work to attend the Ask Italian All About The Base event. They were showcasing their delicious sourdough pizzas and the new spring menu. And they ever so kindly invited me along to sample the goodness! The food was just sensational. Platters of calamari with chips and a tasty sour cream dip on the side. Delicious slabs of pizza filled rare cooked steak, melt in the mouth cheese and enough veggies so you get your 5-a-day!      As part of the event, the Piccadilly Gardens based restaurant were hosting their final round of the #AllAboutTheBase competition. The finalists were putting their pizza base making skills to the test against a panel of judges! Thank you for the lovely invite, it was such a fun, foodie-filled evening. I’m already planning my next visit to the restaurant!

Products I’m loving lately

Summer is officially here. I’ve spent the past week embracing my favourite sun dresses and sandals for work and it feels blaady brilliant! But I’m still tryna follow my whole “let’s shop less, Ruth” rule and this means my wardrobe remains chic and minimalistic, whilst my make up bag is bulging! A couple of months ago I subscribed to My Little Box. A beauty box from Paris with a difference. The May box included this super cute Provence print which really highlights how I’m feeling. Tired, and want to appreciate the little things in life. My beauty essentials  Maybelline baby lips lip balms are my absolute fave. They’ve been my everyday lip product for over a year now and there’s loads of different shades to choose from. I got a whole bunch from my lovely work friends for my birthday and this beautiful pink colour is my go-to. The May box included some gorgeous L’Occitaine toiletries including this mini body wash. I’m off to York at the end of the month and this miniature will …

My day at the Manchester Ideal Home Show

On Friday I was lucky enough to score myself a ticket to the Ideal Home Show. As I grow older my tastes are changing and I’m finding myself swaying away from checking out Topshops latest collection (although I did check out the Jenner sisters rather last week) and find myself in Primark home instead. I’m hoping to fly the nest soon and it was great to see the latest homeware trends.             There was even a food section which really tickled my fancy. And it was here where I finally made a wise investment in my first ever spiralizer! During the day we made a pit stop for lunch at Greg Wallace’s restaurant. The food was devine, so full of flavour and thoroughly delicious.     And to the end the day on a high we attended Aldo Zilli’s cooking demo and even got to meet him!      It was a great day out and I definitely hope to go again next year!

My top 3 cookery books

Cooking is one of my favourite pastimes.Curling up after a long day in work with a stack of cookery books, sifting through the chapters choosing my meals for the week is such a great way to relax. We may be in June but I’m loving trying new soup recipes, salads and tasty veggie dishes. I blogged about my Salads for all Seasons cookery book last year but now the sun is finally making an appearance, it’s high time I got it back out again! Last week I had a week off work and it’s safe to say, I indulged. Almost Famous burgers which are just too tasty to resist, cocktails and snacks a-plenty. But I want to feel back to me. Forget massive weight loss goals, that’s not what I’m about. I just want to feel great – in and out. Yeah, it sounds cheesy buy hey, it’s what I’m going with! For my birthday I was bought the Get the Glow book by food blogger and nutritionist Madeline Shaw. It features her 6 week programme …

Food: Lucho Libre Liverpool

On Saturday I paid a well overdue visit to Lucho Libre in Liverpool. A delicious tapas style Mexican restaurant tucked away just off Bold Street, it certainly didn’t fail to impress.    I was in the city for a catch up with one of my oldest friends and we decided to start the afternoon with food and a cocktail. Why not on the weekend, hey?    I opted for the sweet potato and chorizo quesadilla and a side of piggy piggy piggy fries. Yep named thrice, they were a delicious batch of sweet potato and normal fries topped with pulled pork – delicious!           We arrived at around 3ish and whilst every table was full, there was a chilled out atmosphere and the staff were really tentative, without being too much. Sometimes in restaurants I find you can be asked if everything’s ok a little too much and that’s when it can grate. But Licho Libre were fab.  All three of us had a main and a side dish and the bill was …
